Please join us to celebrate the formal opening of our newest walking trail. With the assistance of the Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Greene Land Trust has cleared a walking trail through the Coxsackie Creek Grassland Preserve. This new trail makes it easier for walkers to access the Preserve and reach Coxsackie Creek. It also goes up over the berm, which affords a lovely view of the surrounding area.
We have planned our grand opening on Thursday, October 17 to take advantage of the unusual opportunity to see October’s Super (Hunter’s) Moon rise to the east as the sun sets to the west at nearly the same time. Weather permitting, we plan to walk the new trail beginning at 5:00pm with those able to do so, and to convene on top of the berm behind Empire Merchants at 5:50pm for a grand view of sunset and moonrise.
We will meet at the cul-de-sac at the end of Houghtaling Road to begin our walk. Refreshments will be served, complements of the Athens Sportsmen Club, whose members help us maintain the Preserve.
