News and Events!
Mawignack Trail now part of the
Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail System!
At the June 10, 2020, Joint Board meeting of the Hudson River Valley Greenway, a resolution was adopted unanimously, which designated the trail in Mawignack Preserve as the newest segment of the Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail System. The Greenway trail links historic sites, parks, downtown areas, and open spaces, connecting residents and visitors to the resources of the Hudson Valley.
On June 13, GLT volunteers installed five interpretive signs at the Mawignack. The signs depict the long and varied history of the property. They include information on the Mohican Tribe who lived on the site, use by European settlers, the site's current environmental benefits, the property's inspiration for Thomas Cole, and the history of the Catskill Railroad which ran through the property. This project was funded in part by a grant from the Hudson River Valley Greenway.
We thank the Hudson River Valley Greenway for ALL of their support!
If you haven't visited the Preserve recently, we hope you will take a walk and learn more about this site's significant history. The property is located on Snake Road in Catskill, NY 12414.
