The 144 acre Mawignack Preserve is located 0.7 miles down Snake Road in the Town of Catskill. The property is one dawn to dusk year round.  Leashed dogs are welcome.  The property is owned by Scenic Hudson and managed by Greene Land Trust.  The marked walking paths connect visitors from the parking area on Snake Road to the meadow and the creek’s shoreline.

Located just upstream of the Village of Catskill, the property encompasses more than two miles of shoreline on Catskill Creek. It contains an open floodplain meadow along the creek’s eastern bank, uplanCatskill Creek Catskill Creek d forest overlooking the meadow and a forested area west of the creek. The land is remarkably unspoiled, as evidenced by its similarity to 19th-century paintings of the site by Frederic Church and Thomas Cole. The property also features a portion of the railbed of the historic Catskill Mountain Railway, which carried passengers between the Hudson River and mountaintop hostelries like the Catskill Mountain House.
