Local birding expert, Rich Guthrie, points out a species in the sky!Local birding expert, Rich Guthrie, points out a species in the sky!On June 13th, about 40 hardy bird and nature enthusiasts hiked the Coxsackie Creek Grassland Preserve between summer cloud bursts in search of Bobolinks, Eastern Meadowlarks, Northern Harriers and Grasshopper Sparrows - a declining group of birds known as "grassland birds".

Participants also learned about the importance of grasslands, and the associated wetlands, in our landscape and the plight of local grassland birds. The event was sponsored the Greene Land Trust in partnership with the Greene Business Alliance and the New Baltimore Conservancy. Thanks to our expert birders who lead the event and to everyone who attended!
